The Golf Blog says: Finally! Finally! Finally, a news reporter exposes the sad state of affairs going on among golf and sports reporters in their timid, deferential treatment of Tiger Woods.

Royal Calkins of the Monterey Herald has written a devastating critique of golf reporters in today’s paper. The article is titled “Let’s Talk Tiger, or Is It Really ‘None of Our Business'” (click here). Without a doubt, this is the best article we at The Golf Blog have read on this subject. You won’t hear this from any golf writer. And that’s the real shame.

Here’s a snippet from Calkins’ excellent piece: “This seemed to be a real chance for some big questions, such as how exactly did the rear window get broken and how many women were there exactly? But it didn’t happen. Make no mistake, Tiger was in charge, almost as much as he was when he won the same event at Pebble Beach a decade ago by a million strokes.

“Reporters, despite the public perception, actually are a rather timid bunch when there is any risk that their subject might embarrass them back. And sports reporters tend to be aggressive only when someone cuts in front of them in the beer line.”
