The Golf Blog says: How do you feel about Tiger Woods getting paid $3 million just to show up to defend his Australian Masters title? Wow, that’s more than the winner gets! What’s more, the government is paying for half of it, at $1.5 million.

“Victorian families are desperately short of hospital beds, police and trains, and taxpayers’ money should be spent on these urgent needs rather than appearance fees for golfers,” Opposition Leader Ted Baillieu’s spokesman commented.

How do you feel, dear Readers? Is the $3 million appearance fee to Tiger just to show up to defend his title a bit excessive? Or is this the free market at its best?

The video below suggests the interest in Tiger has diminished in Australia.
