The Golf Blog says: Fred Couples went on a birdie-birdie-birdie run in the opening few holes to tie Aaron Baddeley momentarily for the lead. But then a later bogey-double bogey stretch on the front nine for Freddy derailed his entire round. From there, Vijay Singh and Kevin Na were the ones really in pursuit of Badds. But Baddeley won by 2 shots at -12, over Vijay at -10 and Na at -9. Couples shot a 2-over to finish at -7. David Duval surprisingly finished in the Top 10 at -6.

Couples, at 51 years old, was the sentimental favorite. After his birdie-birdie-birdie barage, a victory looked possible. But Fred’s swing was a little bit off today, and he–in a scene that has become familiar with Fred’s near contention on the PGA Tour–faltered down the stretch. The body language of Fred in the back nine was sadly reminiscent of Tom Watson in the playoff at the British Open against Stewart Cink. Defeated. But we shouldn’t cry for Fred because he’s having an excellent showing on the Champions Tour.
