The Golf Blog says: Today’s final round of the Shell Houston Open is turning out to be a real gem. After Scott Verplank, who is nursing a nagging wrist problem, pulled a 2-stroke lead over Phil Mickelson, Lefty has put on a barrage of birdies–5 straight at one point. The two are now tied at -17, and both are playing really well. Lefty just drove the short par-4 12th hole and has just made a short putt for birdie now. Verplank followed with his own birdie. Good stuff, guys!
The video below is another chip in by Phil, this time on the first hole for birdie.
UPDATE: Phil Mickelson outlasted Scott Verplank to win after shooting a final round 65, 20-under for the tourney. Great playing by Verplank (who would have qualified for the Masters had he won), but Phil had too much power, incredible short game, and putting today. With his 39th career victory, Phil will now also surpass Tiger Woods in the World Golf Rankings for the first time since 1997. That’s long overdue. Congrats to Phil!
