The Golf Blog says: Tiger Woods just announced on his website that, upon advice of his doctors, he is withdrawing from the U.S. Open at Congressional, in order to think about his “long term health.” His doctors advised him that he could further injure his left knee and Achilles tendon should he have played in the U.S. Open. Tiger re-injured both knee and heel at the Masters and basically hasn’t played since (except for a a disastrous 9 holes, shooting a 45).

The questions about whether Tiger’s knee and Achilles will derail his chances of catching Jack Nicklaus’s record of 18 majors will intensify. Tiger’s recurring injuries appear to be potentially a chronic problem, one that could diminish the number of majors he can even play. Although Tiger said he’s hoping to play in the final 2 majors this year (British and PGA), we’ll have to wait and see. Even if he plays, who knows how strong his knee and Achilles tendon will be, long-term?
