The Golf Blog says: Jerry Pate popularized jumping into a pond after winning a golf tournament back in the 1980s. The fad seemed to die down on the men’s tour, although on the women’s tour, we still see it happening for the traditional jump into Poppie’s Pond with the winner of the major, the Kraft Nabisco Championship. Stacy Lewis took her mom with her into the pond jump this year, and mom ended up breaking her leg.

Well, this time, it was Thomas Levet who–goaded on by the fans and media–jumped into a pond following his victory at the French Open (his national championship). Levet fractured his shin–which you can tell as he walks gimpy-legged out of the pond.

Hopefully, this will put an end to all jumping-into-pond celebrations. If the golfers want to get wet, have someone douse them with champagne!
