The Golf Blog says: Finally. Finally, PGA Tour Commissioner showed some backbone and did not cave into the pressure created by certain members of the golf media who were trying to make a story out of Phil Mickelson’s withdrawal after shooting a 79 at the Memorial last week. Spurred on by comments from Bubba Watson and Rickie Fowler, some in the golf media suggested Mickelson withdrew because too many fans were taking photos of him with their cellphones. Apparently, Mickelson texted Finchem from the 6th hole to complain. Talk about irony!

Well, when asked about the brewing controversy, Finchem sensibly stuck to his guns. The PGA Tour will allow fans to bring their cellphones to the course, just as Phil Mickelson and other players are allowed. The reason is simple: fans won’t come if they can’t bring their phones. The PGA Tour is in step with the times.
