The Golf Blog says: Not too long ago, before the scandal that rocked Tiger Woods’ world, he and Roger Federer were having a bromance and competition to see who would win more majors or Grand Slam events. Tiger had 13 majors and Federer only 11. Since then, Federer has had the better major run, setting the all-time mark at 16 in tennis. But a few difficult years left Federer stuck at 16. Yesterday, after a drought of 2 and a half years, Federer finally won his 17th major at Wimbledon yesterday. The victory over local favorite Andy Murray also catapulted Roger to the World No. 1 ranking in tennis, a miraculous comeback for the 30 year old who had taken a back seat to Novak Djokovic and Rafa Nadal. Federer revealed that Tiger gave him some encouragement over the weekend.

Tiger Woods is on a 4 year drought from winning a major. But he flirted with contention at the US Open, tying for the lead after 2 rounds until a disastrous weekend. Will the British Open be the breakthrough that Tiger is desperately looking for to capture his old 2000 major form? Although Tiger missed the cut this past week at the Greenbrier (which plays nothing like a links course), he’s won 3 tournaments this year and has pulled himself up to No. 4 in the World Ranking. Perhaps Federer’s victory will give Tiger some extra inspiration to close the deal at the next major over the pond. Time is ticking on Tiger’s run at Jack’s record of 18 majors.
