The Golf Blog says: For the second straight major, Tiger Woods is absent. He’s mending after back surgery, and his return this year is remote. At this week’s US Open at Pinehurst, Tiger’s absence provides a stark preview of what the tour will look like once Tiger retires. Sure, Jordan Spieth is an exciting young player–perhaps more exciting today than Rory McIlroy. But no one has the charisma that Tiger has. The tournament is less exciting, less electric with Tiger nowhere to be found. Even when he wasn’t in contention, Tiger brought media and fan interest that elevated the magnitude of the tournament. Hopefully, Tiger will come back better than ever. But if he doesn’t, the end of the Tiger Woods era may have already started. And we’ll all be worse off for it.
